Blueridge Methodist Church – Activated

Project Overview

The Activation of Blue Ridge Methodist Church demonstrates how faith-owned land can serve as a powerful community food asset. Beginning with a fenced pilot growing area, the project supports vegetable production, volunteer engagement, and training while laying the foundation for future acreage expansion. The site aligns agricultural stewardship with the church’s mission—providing food for community distribution while creating pathways for education, workforce exposure, and long-term sustainability.

Work so far and Whats Next

This project demonstrated how church-led land activation can support both food production and community service. Through volunteer-driven growing and harvesting, the site became a hands-on learning environment where participants received training in home and community gardening. By integrating production with existing food pantry ministries, the project aligned agricultural stewardship with faith-based outreach. The long-term vision included expanding growing acreage, developing revenue-supported programming to sustain operations, creating workforce development opportunities, and establishing a replicable model that other churches could adopt to activate underutilized land for community benefit.
